La Marina de Israel advirtió a la flotilla que la región de Gaza estaba cerrada al tráfico marítimo. Durante una búsqueda a bordo del Mármara Mavi, las FDI descubrieron un alijo de armas utilizadas para atacar violentamente a los soldados. Los líderes de la flotilla indicaron (domingo, 30 de mayo de 2010) que la violencia era premeditada. [1]

Temprano por la mañana del lunes (31 de mayo), las fuerzas navales de las FDI interceptaron seis barcos que intentaban romper el bloqueo naval de la Franja de Gaza. Esto ocurrió después de las numerosas advertencias de Israel y la Armada de Israel que fueron emitidas antes de la acción. La Marina de Israel pidió a los buques que se dirigieran hacia Ashdod donde podrían descargar su ayuda material que luego se transferiría por tierra después de someterse a inspecciones de seguridad. Durante el abordaje del Mavi Mármara, los manifestantes atacaron a bordo el personal naval de las FDI con fuego vivo y armas ligeras incluidas navajas y palos. Además dos de las armas utilizadas fueron sustraídas a un soldado de las FDI. [4]
Los manifestantes habían preparado claramente sus armas por adelantado para este propósito específico. De hecho, los líderes de la flotilla indicaron (domingo 30 de mayo) que la violencia era premeditada. [5]

Se encuentran pistolas en la flotilla de activistas: De acuerdo con informes procedentes del mar, a bordo de la flotilla que estaba tratando de romper el cierre marítimo en la Franja de Gaza, las fuerzas de las FDI aprehendieron a dos activistas violentos que portaban pistolas. Los violentos activistas tomaron estas pistolas de las fuerzas de las FDI y aparentemente abrieron fuego contra los soldados, como evidenciaron los cargadores de las pistolas.
Como resultado de esta actividad violenta y peligrosa para la vida y, las fuerzas navales emplearon primero los medios de la dispersión de alborotos, seguido por fuego real.

Puesta al día sobre las lesiones y las bajas a bordo del Mavi Mamara:
Un total de siete soldados resultaron heridos – cuatro soldados resultaron heridos moderadamente, de los cuales estuvieron inicialmente en estado crítico, así como otros tres soldados que resultaron levemente heridos. Entre los activistas violentos, hubo nueve víctimas como consecuencia de la autodefensa de los soldados.
1 de junio de 2010: un soldado dijo el primer ministro Netanyahu que le había alcanzado una bala en el estómago y le señaló la entrada y salida de las heridas.
Un capitán, dijo al primer ministro Netanyahu que la gente en el barco cogió la cuerda y trató de evitar que los soldados bajasen, y que sólo el ingenio de los soldados consiguió liberarla. “Bajé el segundo y mientras lo hacía, me dispararon. Siete u ocho combatientes se me echaron encima y comenzaron a golpearme con una barra. Fui golpeado en la cabeza y el cuello. Otro hombre me atacó con un cuchillo. Perdí la conciencia durante unos 45 minutos y cuando la recuperé, ya estaba todo claro. Mis amigos vinieron y me salvaron»
Otro soldado tan pronto como bajó, fue atacado y arrojado a una cubierta inferior. Recibió una fractura de cráneo grave como consecuencia de ello.
Otro marinero, que participó en la interceptación del buque Mavi Mármara y que sufrió una fractura en el brazo al ser atacado por los pasajeros del barco, describió cómo los soldados fueron tiroteados desde la entrada al pasillo de la nave.
«Vinimos con la intención de parar el barco y llevarlo a Ashdod, y lo hicimos sin las armas que tenemos normalmente, vinimos para algo totalmente diferente” [9]
En las próximas horas, los barcos se dirigirán al puerto de Ashdod, mientras que las fuerzas navales de las FDI realizarán controles de seguridad con el fin de identificar a las personas a bordo de los buques y su equipamiento. El portavoz del ejército israelí expresa que este evento se está desarrollando y más detalles se proporcionarán tan pronto como sea posible.
La operación de las FDI naval se llevó a cabo bajo las órdenes de los dirigentes políticos para poner fin a la flotilla de llegar a la Franja de Gaza y violar el bloqueo naval.
La ayuda humanitaria de la flotilla rumbo a Gaza [10]
El personal de las FDI navales encontraron actos graves de violencia, incluyendo el uso de armamento preparado de antemano con el fin de atacar y hacerles daño. Las fuerzas operaban en el cumplimiento con los comandos operativos y tomaron todas las medidas necesarias a fin de evitar la violencia, pero fue en vano.
Durante una búsqueda a bordo del buque marítimo Mavi Mármara, las FDI descubrieron un alijo de armas, incluyendo muchos cuchillos, tirachinas, piedras, bombas de humo, barras metálicas, improvisados objetos metálicos afilados, palos y garrotes, martillos de 5 kilogramos, bombas incendiarias y máscaras de gas en caso de que las fuerzas antidisturbios de las FDI lanzasen materiales de dispersión a los activistas que atacaron violentamente a los soldados.
Estas armas fueron utilizadas contra personal de la Marina israelí cuando intentaban subir a bordo.
Actualización 2 de junio: las imágenes de video muestran las Fuerzas Navales Shayetet Especial intentando interceptar el buque Mavi Mármara, parte de la flotilla de Gaza.
Los pasajeros de a bordo se ven lanzando cadenas, tubos de metal y una granada a los soldados y les atacan con mangueras de agua. Los pasajeros posteriormente utilizan los mismos tubos de metal para golpear a los soldados que embarcaron en el Mármara.
Los soldados pueden ser vistos armados con pistolas de tinta, para ser utilizadas como dispositivo de dispersión anti disturbios. [11]
Cinco buques de otros llegaron con la flotilla, y la interceptación de las FDI se llevó a cabo sin ningún incidente. Los pasajeros a bordo de estos barcos cooperaron de forma no violenta, con soldados de las FDI y no hubo heridos.
En una reunión especial del Gabinete de Seguridad israelí, el martes (1 de junio) [12] se reveló que aproximadamente 40 personas que se hallaban en la cubierta superior del buque, sin identificación, vistiendo chalecos antibalas y llevando armas que utilizaron contra los soldados de las FDI, son considerados mercenarios de la organización terrorista Al Qaeda. Durante esta sesión especial se puso de manifiesto que, si bien los manifestantes civiles fueron enviados a la cubierta inferior del barco, este grupo de mercenarios estaba dividido en células organizadas para combatir contra los soldados de las FDI.
El gabinete responsabiliza plenamente del incidente a aquellos que comenzaron la violencia, los cuales colocaron claramente la vida de los soldados en peligro.

Israeli Navy Soldier Describes the Violent Mob Aboard Mavi Marmara, 1 Jun 2010
An Israeli Navy Soldier describes the violent confrontation aboard the Mavi Marmara, detailing the descent of the soldiers onto the ship and the types of weapons used against them.
Large groups of passengers surrounded soldiers and attacked them with metal poles and knives, and threw one soldier over the side of the ship. Some passengers grabbed pistols from the IDF soldiers and opened fire. As a result of the confrontation, seven IDF soldiers were injured, and nine of the passengers were killed.
The ‘Free Gaza’ Flotilla had publicly insisted on their non-violent intentions, however their violent attack on the IDF soldiers was clearly premeditated. They had knives, metal rods, slingshots and other items ready to use.

Communicated by the Prime Minister’s Media Adviser
The Cabinet decided that the imposition of restrictions on the entry of ships into Gaza, which is controlled by the Hamas terrorist organization, is an outstanding act of self-defense against Hamas’s continued aggression against Israeli citizens and communities; so too the IDF action against the violent provocation on the high seas.
The Cabinet regrets the fact that there were fatalities during the event but lays full responsibility on those elements that took violent action which tangibly endangered the lives of IDF soldiers.
The Cabinet expresses its full appreciation for the IDF and its commanders who acted out of self-defense and sends wishes for a quick recovery to our wounded soldiers. Israel will continue to defend its citizens from the Hamas terrorist base. The security of our communities and our citizens outweighs all other considerations.
The Cabinet will reconvene tomorrow to continue its discussion of the issue.
Israel will act to immediately expel all the detainees according to the procedures set by law
Following the discussion of the security and diplomatic cabinet today, the Prime Minister consulted with the Defense Minister, Justice Minister, and Interior Minister on the question of expelling the detainees from the flotilla to Gaza.
It was agreed that the detainees would be expelled immediately – according to the procedures set by law. The Interior Minister announced that the expulsion will begin this evening, and the assessment is that it can be completed in approximately 48 hours.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the following remarks at the Security Cabinet meeting:
«This was no peace flotilla but a violent and planned force. We have film and pictures that underscore what our soldiers faced and the last thing that could possibly be said about that ship is that it was a peace ship. Today, I visited the wounded fighters at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer and I heard from them waiting for them on the deck of the ship were terrorists armed with cold weapons such as axes, knives, clubs, bars and the like, and it is likely that they also snatched weapons. Our soldiers acted against them with equanimity and heroism. We regret the loss of life – but give full backing to the soldiers and to the IDF regarding this action.»
Prime Minister Netanyahu explained why it is necessary to check ships transporting equipment and people to Gaza:
«We know from the experience of Operation Cast Lead, and from before it, that war materiel which enters Gaza is directed against our citizens. In Gaza is an Iranian-sponsored terrorist state; therefore, we try to prevent the entry of war materiel into Gaza, whether by land, sea or air. True, they smuggle war materiel through tunnels but smuggling via the sea is completely different, quantitatively. On the Francop alone, we captured approximately 200 tons of war materiel smuggled from Iran to Hizbullah. Opening a sea route into Gaza would constitute a great danger to the security of our citizens. Therefore, we persist with a naval blockade and check the ships. There is no possibility of maintaining this policy without checking ships’ cargoes. True, there is international pressure and criticism of this policy but we must understand that it is vital in order to maintain Israel’s security and Israel’s right to defend itself.»
