Después de la publicación del informe Ryan sobre los abusos físicos y sexuales contra niños y jóvenes en Irlanda, el sitio BishopAccountability.org publicó una lista de instituciones católicas en Estados Unidos acusadas de corrupción de menores. De acuerdo con la información proporcionada por The Boston Globe, cinco semanas después de la publicación del informe Ryan, una organización inició un esfuerzo para compilar evidencias sobre lo que se cree ha sido similar en los Estados Unidos: un patrón de abusos físicos y sexuales en instituciones, colegios, reformatorios y seminarios dirigidos por congregaciones religiosas católicas.
BishopAccountability.org, mantiene un sitio en internet que reúne los casos y archivos sobre los abusos sexuales del clero y publicó una lista de instituciones católicas en ese país cuyo personal ha enfrentado acusaciones de abuso sexual a menores: La Casa Nazareth de las Hermanas Pobres de Nazareth en San Diego; el Hogar San Vicente para Huérfanos de las Hermanas de la Santa Humildad de María en Iowa; el Hogar Santo Tomás-San Vicente de las Hermanas de la Caridad de Nazareth en Kentucky; el seminario menor de Elm Bank de los Padres Estigmantinos en Massachusetts; el Hogar de San José para niños y el Hogar de Santa María para niñas en Missouri; el Orfanato de San Patricio de las Hermanas de la Merced en New Hampshire; el Orfanato de San Antonio de las Hermanas de San Francisco de la Penitencia y de la Caridad en Ohio; el Hogar de Santa María para niños de las Hermanas Misioneras Franciscanas de Nuestra Señora de las Lágrimas en Oregon; el Orfanato de San Francisco de las Hermanas de San Francisco en Pennsylvania; el Seminario de San Antonio de los Oblatos de María Inmaculada en Texas; el Orfanato de San José de las Hermanas de la Providencia en Vermont; Briscoe Memorial School de los Hermanos Cristianos de Irlanda en Washington y la Escuela San Juan para sordos de las Hermanas de la Tercera Orden de San Francisco en Wisconsin.
De acuerdo con la organización, en el estado de Washington los Hermanos Cristianos de Irlanda son acusados de abuso sexual perpetrado contra dos docenas de víctimas; en Wisconsin, el director de la institución para sordos admitió el abuso sexual de por lo menos treinta niños y el acoso de 200 más; en Vermont, 75 hombres y mujeres alegaron abuso físico y sexual.
Haciendo una relación al caso irlandés, en los Estados Unidos la supervisión de los colegios fue prácticamente inexistente teniendo en consecuencia la tortura y violación de niños.
Anne Barrett Doyle, codirectora de BishopAccountability.org enfatizó que estas acciones de denuncia fueron inspiradas a partir del Informe irlandés. “Nos dimos cuenta que en Estados Unidos no había una relación de seminarios menores, escuelas, reformatorios y orfanatos dirigidos por la Iglesia en donde se hubiera dado el abuso a menores”. “El problema que se ocultó aquí es colosal”, enfatizó.
